LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin Police officers arrested a 37-year-old man early Thursday morning after he allegedly held two men and a two women at gunpoint at a home in the 3100 block of Ford Chapel Road and robbed them of $57.

Jonathan Ray Rubins, 37, is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony aggravated kidnapping charge and two first-degree felony aggravated robbery charges. No bail amount has been set at this time.

According to a press release, LPD officers responded to a home in the 3100 block of Ford Chapel Road after they received a 911 call at about 2 a.m. about a man with a gun who was possibly holding people hostage.

Once they got to the scene, the officers entered the home through an open back window and spoke to the two remaining people in the home, including the male home owner. The woman told officers that Rubins told her that she owed someone money.

“She had to communicate with officers through notes and sign language because she is deaf and also cannot speak,” the press release stated.

The woman told the LPD officers that after Rubins banged on her bedroom door, he pushed his way inside wearing a camouflage face mask, put a gun to her face, and demanded money.

According to the press release, the woman also told the officers that, initially, there were another man and woman in the room with her, but Rubins let them go after he took $37 from the man.

“The woman said Rubins refused to let her leave even after she gave him $20,” the press release stated. “She said she thought he was going to kill her.”

When the LPD officers searched the home, they found Rubins hiding in a front closet within reach of a loaded Glock 9 mm pistol, the press release stated. He was taken into custody without incident.
