POLLOK, TX (KTRE) - One little girl's only wish this Christmas was to see her father, who for the past six months has been serving in the military overseas. On Monday, her wish was granted.
Due to his role as Specialist in the Army, Jared Nedbalek only gets to see his 5-year-old daughter, Emilyn, every few months.
But with the Christmas holiday just around the corner, Jared and his wife wanted to ensure this homecoming was one for the books.
"He left two days after her fifth birthday, so we figured since he was coming home for Christmas we would surprise her and make it big reveal," said Amanda Nedbalek, Emilyn's mother.
Emilyn and her classmates file into the library for what they think is story time with a special visit from Santa. But in walks his good friend Frosty the Snowman. Emilyn still has no idea what's about to happen.
"I was calm until I actually got out here then my heart started racing," said Jared Nedbalek, who's been overseas in Japan for six months.
A father and his little princess, together again.
"It was really exciting," said Emilyn Nedbalek.
But it's a surprise Jared didn't expect to go off without a hitch.
"Something is probably going to go wrong, but that's just my mindset for like everything," Jared said.
But it didn't. And nothing but smiles for mom Amanda who, for the last six months, has had to play both mother and father.
"I was nervous at first then once he came out and started talking to her I almost started crying and then I was like 'No, I can't cry because she'll hear me," Amanda said.
One Christmas wish granted; in the form of the reunion of a lifetime.
The Nedbalek family say they'll cherish each moment they can together before Jared reports back to South Korea on January 1st.
