LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Another year brought another generous donation to the Christian Information Service Center from two different churches.
Lufkin's First Baptist Church and New Beginnings Baptist Church teamed up for their annual Christmas musical on Sunday night. Instead of selling tickets, the churches agreed to ask for canned good donations that would go back to the community through the CISC food bank. Last year the drive raised over 2,000 pounds of canned goods and this year the churches believe they have exceeded those numbers.
The churches felt led to this again after the recent layoffs in the community.
"To see the community come out and give back to the less fortunate, it melts or hearts," said CISC Director Yulonda Richard. "It lets us know what we are doing is good, it's right."
