EAST TEXAS (KTRE) - Lufkin Panther Kordell Rodgers made his first year as the quarterback count. His efforts were worthy of the Player of the Year award for District 16-5A.
The junior completed 143 of 246 passes, while throwing for 2,142 yards for 23 touchdowns. His leadership help lead Lufkin into the postseason.
Rodgers isn't the only local East Texan making noise, Nacogdoches Dragon Brandon Jones was named the Defensive Player of the Year for District 16-5A.
The senior safety recorded 124 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, two pass breakups and two interceptions. You could also find Jones on the other side of the ball either racking in touchdowns off punt returns or taking the handoff into the endzone. Jones recorded eight touchdowns this season.

Nacogdoches- quarterback Noah Hildebrand, running back Phillip Jones, receiver Alex Gregory, defensive linemen Kamron Yarbrough and Kyle Consford, linebackers Derrick Wright and Josh Thompson, safety Corey Lane.
Lufkin- running back Kahlil Brown, offensive guards Rodrick Arthur and Jerrod Johnson, defensive tackle Eric Smallwood, defensive end Jacory Miller, linebacker Isaiah Phillips.
