Lufkin's Ellen Trout Zoo receives major award from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Lufkin’s Ellen Trout Zoo won an award from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums Thursday for 25 years or more of continuous accreditation.

“Congratulations to the Ellen Trout Zoo for 25 or more years of continuous accreditation!” AZA officials Steve Burns and Chuck Wikenhauser wrote in a letter to Ellen Trout Zoo Director Gordon Henley. “That’s a tremendous achievement, and AZA is honored to present your institution with the AZA Quarter Century Award recognizing the Ellen Trout Zoo’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards in animal care, welfare, management, veterinary care, conservation, education, staffing, facilities, safety, guest services, and more.”

In the letter, Burns and Wikenhauser praised the Ellen Trout Zoo’s dedication to the “best zoological practices and philosophies.
Henley said he and the zoo’s staff are very proud of the award.

The Ellen Trout Zoo is located at 402 Zoo Circle in Lufkin. The zoo’s operating hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., including holidays and weekends. Admission is $7 for people ages 12 to 59, $6 for seniors 60 and older, $3.50 for children ages 4 to 11, and children under 4 are free.
