LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Angelina County Assistant District Attorney Katrina Carswell has announced she has filed to run for district attorney in the Republican primary election.
Carswell made the announcement after District Attorney Art Bauereiss announced Thursday he would not seek re-election.
Carswell has been serving in the DA's office for the past 12-1/2 years, she said.
"Family, friends and colleagues have all encouraged me to take this step and I feel fortunate to have their support," Carswell said. "I'm looking forward to getting my name out in the community and letting the people of Angelina County know that I am ready to serve them in the best way I know how, as I've been doing since 2003."
Former county court-at-law Judge Joe Martin announced Wednesday he would also be running for the open position.
