JASPER, TX (KTRE) - A federal grand jury has indicted DETCOG Executive Director Walter Diggles, according to President Wes Suiter.
Suiter said Diggles told him of the indictment Friday morning, though Suiter said he does not know what the charge is and it has not been sealed.
Suiter said he held an emergency executive board meeting Friday morning and they decided to put Diggles on paid leave. Assistant Executive Director Rusty Phillips will serve as acting executive director.
"The agency will continue to conduct business under the provisions of its bylaws until further action is taken," Suiter said. "DETCOG will continue to conduct business as usual and do our best to provide services to the citizens of Deep East Texas."
The FBI raided Diggles' home and the DETCOG office, both in Jasper, in February 2014. Diggles said after that raid that they were looking at inner-party transactions "that may have some impropriety."
