LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - One Boy Scout just received the organization's most distinguished honor, and he proudly calls Lufkin home.
Brian Humphreys was awarded the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal for Conservation on Sunday. The prestigious award comes after months of significant research and work on four projects all focused on improving conservation in our society.
It's an achievement Brian hopes will inspire others around the world to do their part to conserve.
"Hopefully, it'll start a chain reaction where more people will start to do this and if more people started doing this that would be great. The environment would be such a better place for creatures to live," Humpheys said.
Even more exciting, Brian is the first to receive this award in the Deep East Texas area. He joins just over 1,000 other recipients since the award's inception in 1914.
