The Lufkin girls basketball team proved rankings mean nothing after they beat the John Tyler Lady Lions 59-55.
The Lady Panthers came out hot, stalling John Tyler to just seven points to their 20 to end the first quarter.
Lufkin outscored John Tyler 32-20 by half, and despite the Lady Lions coming out with the better second half, it wasn’t enough to make up for their poor initial showing. John Tyler outscored Lufkin 35-27 in the second half.
Mycah McDonald finished with a team-high 20 points for Lufkin. Following her lead was NaTasha Mack with 14, Ivie Massie with eight, then Alexis Hood and Diamond Johnson finished with both six points a piece.
For the Lady Lions, Destini Whitehead finished with a team-leading 20 points. Behind her was Alyssa Mayfield with 13 points and Ashtyn Beal with 12.
With the win, the No. 7 ranked Lady Panthers continue their undefeated season at 16-0 and move 2-0 in district. The Lufkin girls won’t play until the Hallsville Tournament starting on December 28.
