CHICAGO, IL- Nacogdoches native Clint Dempsey is one of five nominees U.S. Soccer announced for the 2015 U.S. Soccer Male Player of the Year award.
Dempsey has won the award three times. The forward won in 2007, 2011 and 2012.
The other nominees are midfielder Michael Bradley, goalkeeper Brad Guzan, defenders Fabian Johnson and DeAndre Yedlin.
Dempsey has a career-high and team-high for the most U.S. goals of all-time in a single season with nine this year. He is currently tied with Landon Donovan and Eric Wynalda.
During the Gold Cup, the East Texan had two multi-goal performances including a hat trick against Cuba. Dempsey won the Golden Boot for netting seven goals in six games.
In the 2015 MLS regular season, Dempsey finished with ten goals and ten assists. The former Nacogdoches Dragon also scored twice during the playoffs in the three postseason games.
U.S. Soccer will announce the winner on Friday.
