LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Angelina County and Cities Health District teamed up with Brookshire Brothers to launch their new project called Community Partnerships for Healthy Mothers and Children.
The campaign is paid for through a grant from the National WIC Association that focuses on access to healthy foods and beverages and chronic disease prevention. The health district was one of 17 total groups across the country to get the grant.
As part of the community education program, the health district rolled out a window cling and billboard campaign Wednesday morning. The window clings are there ,to encourage stores to provide healthy options for customers.
"The health district is very excited about the chance to educate the public about the opportunity for fresh fruits and vegetables right here in their community," said Health District Administrator Sharon Shaw. "We want them to choose fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy grains."
