LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - During the December board meeting, the Lufkin Education Foundation gave special recognition to the non-profit's first president Becca Chance who steeped aside from the position.
The organization gave Chance a special glass diamond plaque and then presented her with a plaque that will be hung in the LISD Board Room that will have the name of all the presidents of the group. Chance was the first President of the non-profit that was started after Superintendent Dr. LaTonya Goffney brought up the idea over two years ago.
"All credit needs to go to Dr. Goffney," Chance said. "I have been really blessed to be the president of this organization and see it from it's infancy and how it has grown over the past two years and see our board develop and grow and represent our mission so well."
In the two years of Chance being president the group raised $182,571 that will go back to the students and teachers in the district. Heather Buchanan will now take over as president. Chance will still be involved in a supporting role.
