SAN AUGUSTINE COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Following a grand jury indictment, a 21-year-old San Augustine man surrendered to authorities Friday in connection to allegations that he had an ongoing sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl from May to September.
Dylan Wyatt Yates is still being held in the San Augustine County Jail on a first-degree aggravated sexual assault of a child charge and five second-degree felony indecency with a child by sexual contact charges. Collectively, Yates' bail amount has been set at $80,000.
Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham with the San Augustine County Jail said that Yates, the victim, the victim's mother, and Yates' pastor all showed up at the sheriff's office to talk to authorities, and Yates admitted to having an ongoing sexual relationship with the girl in a period from May to September. Cunningham said that the relationship wasn't forced, and that Yates has been cooperative.
According to Texas law, a child under the age of 17 cannot legally give consent to have sex.
