Lufkin Zoo animals get special Christmas gifts

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

Several animals in the Ellen Trout Zoo were given a Christmas surprise a day early.

The duikers, bobcat, white-tailed deer and black buck antelope all received special care packages during their morning feeding sessions from zoo keepers.

The packages were designed to look like Christmas gifts and contained their daily food along with a few special treats. The packages were designed by students at Brandon Elementary.

Several more enrichment days are scheduled and listed below.

  • Dec. 27 - Amazon parrots @ 9 a.m, macaws @ 9 a.m., sloth and tamarin @ 9:30 a.m., jaguar @ 9 a.m., Lion @ 9 a.m.
  • Dec. 26 - Seriema @ 9 a.m., wallaby & emu @ 10 10 a.m., rhino @ 10 a.m., African spur-thighed tortoises @ 1 p.m., jaguar @ 9 a.m., Lion @ 9 a.m., De Brazza's monkey @ 10 a.m.
  • Dec. 28 - clouded leopard @ 9 a.m., eclectus parrots @ 1 p.m., macaws @ 1 p.m., raccoons @ 9 a.m., tiger @ 9 a.m..
  • Dec. 29 - clouded leopard @ 9 a.m., white-faced saki @ 9  a.m., tiger @ 9 a.m., white-tailed deer @ 9 a.m.
