NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Deputies with the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Diboll man for bootlegging moonshine Wednesday afternoon after a traffic stop on US Highway 59 South.

Michael Swank, 40, was arrested and charged with prohibited illicit beverages, which is a Class B misdemeanor.

According to a press release, NCSO deputies stopped a Ford pickup on Highway 59 South because of a seatbelt violation. After they spoke with the driver and passenger in the truck, the deputies became suspicious and got permission to search the vehicle.

The search revealed 17 Mason jars that contained moonshine, the press release stated. Sheriff Jason Bridges said his deputies think the moonshine was being delivered to a home in Nacogdoches County.

Later, the NCSO deputies got permission to search Swank’s home and found a still that was being used to make large quantities of moonshine, the press release.

The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and the Diboll Police Department assisted with the investigation.
