Several SW Washington school districts cancel school Monday due to weather

VANCOUVER, WA (KPTV) -

Several school districts in southwest Washington have canceled school Monday due to the weather. Those include Vancouver Public Schools, Evergreen, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Kelso and Longview.

As snow and ice covered Vancouver and southwest Washington, students started to wonder.

"I hope I don't have school tomorrow, because I can't get there because of all the ice," said Clark College student Julie Badyuk. "We almost crashed today just a few blocks away from here, actually. Since I do drive a rear-wheel drive car I won't be able to get on the hills."

By Sunday afternoon, district after district had decided to cancel school altogether Monday.

"My brother goes to Evergreen, and Evergreen School District is all closed right now, so he doesn't get to go to school, sad for him," said Clark College student Kennedy Dinsdale.

The slippery roads meant some drivers had to chain up while others decided to ditch the car altogether. Ken Thomas just moved to Vancouver on Friday, but the snow and ice will not give him a long weekend.

"I work for a software company, so anywhere you have a computer and Internet connection, you're supposed to be working," he said.
