ANGELINA COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - Troopers with the Angelina County office of the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested a 34-year-old man for a variety of drug charges and failing to comply with sex offender registration guidelines following a traffic stop on State Highway 94 Saturday night.
Paul Edward Murphy, of Lufkin, was arrested and charged with two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance, state-jail felony possession of marijuana between 4 ounces and 5 pounds, a Class A misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance, failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements, and outstanding traffic warrants.
Murphy was released from the Angelina County Jail on Sunday after he posted a collective bail amount of $11,500.
According to a press release, a DPS trooper stopped Murphy's 1994 Ford pickup for speeding at about 9 p.m. Saturday night on Highway 94. When the trooper made contact with Murphy, a strong odor of marijuana could be picked up from inside the truck.
After the trooper did a probable cause search of Murphy's pickup, multiple controlled substances were found in various locations inside the vehicle, the press release stated.
Murphy was arrested at the scene and taken to the Angelina County Jail.
