Crockett man gets probation for attempted arson

CROCKETT, TX (KTRE) - A Crockett man has agreed to a 10-year probation sentence after pleading guilty to an arson charge.

Raymond Smith Jr. pleaded guilty to the charge on Monday.

Crockett police arrested Smith in September after responding to a fire in the 100 block of Sowescor Street, which was out by the time they arrived.

They spoke with a woman, who said Smith set a fire to one of the bedrooms and left. There were two other people in the home when he left.

The woman said she had been arguing with Smith, who said his mother needed to die.
