LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

A Huntington grandmother, who's mobile home was destroyed by recent powerful storms, is receiving much needed support from her community today, including Lufkin PD.

Lydia Cantrell and her five grandchildren had no where to go, until donations for housing and clothing began pouring in.

The Cantrell family, a recipient of Christmas gifts from Lufkin PD's 'Blue Santa', now are staying in a motel paid for by good Samaritans in Lufkin.

Cantrell says while her situation is unfortunate, the positive outcome lets her know there are still good people among us.

"We've got some of the best people in East Texas in our area and they have a heart. They're compassionate and they're God-fearing or they wouldn't cater and I think that's important, to thank everybody for what they've done for me and my kids," Cantrell said.

Donations for the Cantrell family can be dropped off at The Lufkin Police Department at 300 E Shepherd Ave in Lufkin.
