TRINITY, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Trinity Police Department arrested a 27-year-old man Wednesday on an aggravated assault charge after he allegedly got into a fight with his pregnant girlfriend and several housemates and later slashed his sister on her hand and arm.
Cedric Raynard Pettie, of Trinity, was arrested and charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the arrest affidavit, Pettie, his girlfriend, the victim and her fiancé, and another sister and her two children all live at a home in the 300 block of Smith Street in Trinity.
Early in the morning on Nov. 3, a Trinity police officer met with the alleged victim and her fiancé at the police department and told him what had happened. The victim told police that she got out of bed when she heard Pettie's girlfriend crying. The girlfriend also said, "Let go of my hair," the affidavit stated.
The alleged victim told police that Pettie, his girlfriend, and the girlfriend's baby were in the bedroom. Later, Pettie's girlfriend went into the bathroom and asked her to go get her baby from the bedroom. When the victim went to pick up the baby, Pettie allegedly said, "Put that m----------- down."
According to the affidavit, the victim told Pettie that she was taking the baby to his girlfriend, and he punched her in the right side of the face. At that point, the alleged victim's fiancé and Pettie's girlfriend came into the room, and the alleged victim told Pettie's girlfriend to leave because she was pregnant.
The alleged victim and Pettie "got into it" and ended up in the kitchen, the affidavit stated. Pettie grabbed a knife, and at one point, the victim's mother came over and grabbed Pettie. The alleged victim told her fiancé to leave and that she would pick him up in her car.
The affidavit said that Pettie grabbed a BB gun and started looking for the victim's fiancé.
After the victim picked her boyfriend up, they went back to the residence in the 300 block of Smith Street because "they didn't have anywhere to go."
Hoping that Pettie had calmed down, the alleged victim pulled into the driveway and saw Pettie sitting on the front porch. However, Pettie walked up to her and told her that he was going to go to his car, so he could kill her and her fiancé, the affidavit stated.
At that point, the alleged victim's fiancé "took off down the road" while Pettie went to the driver's side of his car. The victim told the TPD officer that Pettie has a real gun, but she didn't know if he had it in his car.
After the alleged victim and her fiancé went to speak to the TPD officer, they went to the house of the fiance's mother to get some clothes. When they got to the house, the woman told her fiancé to stay in the car, and Pettie kept shooting at her with his BB gun, the affidavit stated.
The alleged victim told the TPD officer that she didn't say anything to Pettie because she was just trying to get her things.
Later, Pettie grabbed a knife from the kitchen and tried to kick down the door to the room where the alleged victim had barricaded herself to get away from Pettie. After trying to hold Pettie back, the victim's mother went next door to get Pettie's step-father to come help, the affidavit stated.
Somehow, Pettie managed to get the locked door open a bit, and he made downward thrusts with the knife as the victim was trying to push him out of the room, the affidavit stated. The victim told the Trinity Police officer that was when Pettie cut her on the right hand and arm, the affidavit stated.
At that point, the victim's fiancé came into the home and grabbed Pettie in an effort to keep him from hurting the victim more, the affidavit stated. Then Pettie's step-father grabbed him and pushed him to the ground.
According to the affidavit, the cut on the victim's right arm required stitches.
