NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - The lineup is almost complete for this year's Nacogdoches Music Festival, formerly called Big Nac.
The Austin promoter who kicked off the event last year didn't return, but one Nacogdoches music lover is making sure the event continues.
Kati Kennedy sits at the wine bar she owns listening to some of the bands she's already booked for the Nacogdoches Music Festival scheduled for March 3-6.
That's the Chubby Knuckle Choir, a returning act from last year's Nac Music. Other returning bands are in the wings. None are bothered that a big promoter in no longer in the picture.
"All of the venues and patrons who were downtown last year for the festival really enjoyed it," Kennedy said. "I don't think any of us were disappointed. It's just not as profitable as a venture for Texas Music Magazine."
Nacogdoches Music Festival is happy to break even and any profit turned will go into the future festivals. Unlike last years," the Nacogdoches Convention and Visitors Bureau will not be financially supporting the event. Kennedy, a CVB board members says it will help out in other ways.
"They're going to help with advertising and the things the CVB is supposed to do to help promote Nacogdoches," Kennedy said.
The lineup is now going onto the Nacogdoches Music Festival Website.
"The schedule is being posted here," Kennedy said.
Special effort is made to bring back popular bands and introduce music lovers to new ones.
"Really, the industry is kinda small," Kennedy said. "When you're booking a band, there are only so many booking agencies and they represent several, so you're not having to make as many calls as it might seem."
Especially when the bands call Kennedy. Quite a few booking inquiries have come in on the Nacogdoches Music Festival Website.
The Nacogdoches Music Festival is March 3-6. Performances will take place at several venues, all within walking distance from one another, in downtown Nacogdoches.
It's online tickets sales only. Click here for the Nacogdoches Music Festival Website.
