East Texas prepares for Martin Luther King Day celebrations

EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -

No matter were you live, there will be plenty of choices for you to honor the legendary Dr. Martin Luther King Junior on MLK day coming up this Monday.

In Lufkin, there will be the annual MLK march starting at noon and the hall of honor induction program starting at one. Mary Harris Driver and Louise LaVane will be inducted.

The coordinator says this year, they have done a lot to make the event about unity.

"Oh, my goodness! Whatever their expectations are, multiply it by ten! If people come out with the right attitude for what the event is about, then I think it will be humongous. Epic, I would say epic," said Marilyn Kegler, Dunbar Hall of Honor Committee Coordinators

Several events are going on in Nacogdoches as well. The Community of North Redland celebration starts at 9 at Flemons Park. There will be a march and barbecue dinner.

The TJR campus will be holding a day of service. Students from SFA, TJR, and people from the community will work together to revitalize the TJR garden. That’s from 11 to 4.
