SAN AUGUSTINE, TX (KTRE) - Alabama authorities have arrested a man accused of keeping a three-year-old child away from her military mother.
San Augustine County Sheriff's Office Chief Deputy Gary Cunningham said authorities arrested Tommie Lee Roberts, 26, when he showed up at Child Protective Services there to pick up his daughter after he had learned they took custody of her from her maternal grandmother.
The sheriff's office has been investigating the case since Connie Roberts returned from serving in Korea. Kiara Roberts was with her father when Tommie Roberts cut off all contact with Connie Roberts.
The sheriff's office had been trying to find both since. Complicating matters, Tommie Roberts is a transgender, so Cunningham said he could have been tough to find.
Cunningham said authorities found Kiara Roberts at Connie Roberts' estranged mother's Alabama house Wednesday night.
Cunningham said Tommie Roberts learned his daughter was at CPS and tried to pick her up Thursday. That is when he was placed under arrest.
He is charged with interference with child custody and is being held on a $100,000 bond.
