Proud Of East Texas-Mary Jane McNamara

Mary Jane McNamara is one of eight "Women Who Inspire", being honored at the "Women In Tyler" luncheon Thursday at 11:30 in Tyler's Rose Garden Center. McNamara's love of books led her into a sixty-years plus career as a librarian, first at the Tyler Public Library for twenty-eight years, at Tyler Jr. College for twenty-two years, and after that as a volunteer, a life she describes as "rich and rewarding".

While her earlier years were spent finding material for students' term papers or locating just the right books for lonely readers, McNamara now searches archives at the Smith County Historical Society for families looking for their roots and authors compiling histories. She says helping people find what they want is "fascinating".

For Mary Jane McNamara, the greatest satisfaction of her long career has been to touch lives in ways that have made things a little easier and people a little happier. Thousands of East Texans will agree that is what she has done for them.
