New chief taking over reins of Nacogdoches ISD Police Department

NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

By next week, the Nacogdoches Independent School District will have a new police chief.

Chief Doug Ploch is retiring after 23 years with the district.

He's handing over the positon to Sandra Murray, an officer who has been with district since 2009.

Murray has extensive military expertise. Her final tour of duty was at the Defense Intelligence Agency in the Pentagon.

"I have a wide range of, had a wide range of responsibilities and each one of those a far as leadership, managing resources will certainly come into play in this position,” Murray said.

 Ploch says he's pleased with the years he's spent serving NISD.

"If I had to use a word, it's not the systems, it's the relationships that I've been able to have with the staff and the students over the years and the positiveness I've been able to bring to some of their lives,” Ploch said.

Ploch is joining his family at his new home in Aransas Pass, near Corpus Christi.

Murray will assume her duties as chief on February 1st.
