An Angelina County grand jury has indicted a 32-year-old Lufkin man on a first-degree murder charge in connection to allegations that he shot another man to death at the Annie Mae’s night club in the Cedar Grove community in November of 2015.

Terry Christopher “Chris” Criswell was among the 39 indictments the Angelina County grand jury handed down earlier this month

Criswell is still being held in the Angelina County Jail on a first-degree felony murder charge. His bail amount has been set at $500,000.

According to the arrest affidavit, Criswell had been trying to provoke the victim before he shot the man.

An investigator with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office went out to Annie Mae’s night club in the Cedar Grove community at about 3:45 a.m. on Nov. 15 to speak with three witnesses who were present when Criswell allegedly shot Kevin Moore, 38, who died a short time later at a Lufkin hospital, the affidavit stated.

The witnesses told the ACSO investigator that Criswell made comments before the shooting that he was “going to get that [racial epitet].” They told the investigator that, at the time, they weren’t sure who Criswell was talking about.

Witnesses told authorities that they saw Criswell get out of the passenger seat of a white 2000 Buick Century before the shooting, and after the shooting, he got into the back seat of the vehicle before it fled the scene, the affidavit stated.

"Witnesses also advised that prior to the shooting, Criswell was trying to provoke Moore {verbally], but Moore ignored him and continued to visit with his friends at the club," the affidavit stated. "Witnesses said that within seconds, they heard two gunshots and noticed that Moore grabbed his abdomen area and began walking away from the club."

The affidavit stated that witnesses saw Criswell intentionally shoot Moore. He allegedly kept firing at Moore as the other man was walking away.
