Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week: Mobile phone theft

From Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers

LUFKIN, TX (News Release) - Crime Stoppers features crimes where someone mistakenly left property in a public place and someone else took it because, under Texas law, that is Theft.

Most people go out of their way to return found property and Crime Stoppers allows time for them to do so before publicizing the case. This week's Crime of the Week video shows a mobile phone theft that occurred two weeks ago and the thieves' intentions were clear.

The video, which is posted at and, shows a grocery store customer leaving her mobile phone after paying for her purchases and the next customers in line taking it. The thieves, two women, point to and discuss the phone before deciding to take it. Their criminal intentions can be seen in how they concealed the phone beneath a wallet, moved it below counter level, and then separated – one left with the phone while the other stayed with the wallet and paid for their groceries.

The investigating police officer described the thieves as a "younger, white female with long, black hair wearing a hoodie with lettering on the sleeves and knee-high boots" and "a white female wearing scrubs – a dark blue top and light blue bottoms – with shoulder-length brown hair and a heavy-set build". The report does not indicate that any witness described the "younger" female as a juvenile but the low-resolution videos prevented a clear determination of her age so Crime Stoppers chose to blur her face.

If you can identify either of the women, call Deep East Texas Crime Stoppers at (936) 639-TIPS or submit a tip online at Crime Stoppers calls and tips are anonymous and the first, most accurate tip that leads to an arrest may be eligible for a cash reward.
