GARRISON, TX (KTRE) - The Texas Department of Transportation is urging motorists to use caution on US Highway 59 south of Garrison.
Some lanes of traffic are still blocked because crews are working to clear an 18-wheeler accident. The accident occurred early Wednesday morning.
All lanes of traffic were closed at about 7:30 a.m. Wednesday when a medical helicopter landed to transport the injured truck driver to the hospital, according to TxDOT spokeswoman Rhonda Oaks.
A press release from the Texas Department of Public Safety stated that DPS troopers from Nacogdoches County responded to the scene of a one-vehicle accident involving an 18-wheeler on Highway 59 just south of County Road 179.
According to the preliminary accident investigation, a 2012 International tractor-trailer rig driven by David Wayne Fleming, 47, of St. Francis, Arkansas, was headed south on Highway 59 when it left the road to the right. After it left the road, the 18-wheeler drove into a creek and struck the creek bank, causing it to lose a load of pipes.
Fleming was transported by helicopter to Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview for treatment.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious, reduce speed, and prepare for delays.
