County clerk's office drops charges against Lufkin hospice workers

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) -

The Angelina County Attorney's Office has dropped public intoxication charges against two former hospice workers accused of showing up to a death call drunk in February 2015.

Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Amanda Wilkerson Gardner and Amanda Ebarb Meshell after family members of a woman who died said both "reeked of alcohol" and got in a confrontation with the family about whether or not they had been drinking and if they were fit to drive.

The county attorney's office dropped the charge on May 13, 2015, according to court documents, due to insufficient evidence.

According to a February 17, 2015, report published on KTRE.com, a DWI charge against Gardner was not pursued because the responding deputy did not conduct a standard breath test.
