LOVELADY, TX (KTRE) -

More security will becoming to several Houston County school districts.

Wednesday morning, Houston County Sheriff Darrell Bobbitt and his staff started the new security program at Lovelady ISD.

"Obtaining grants is often an arduous task and very time consuming.  We are competing against many agencies that need funding for special projects," Chief Deputy G.P. Shearer said.

The grant will provide funding for security at Lovelady, Latexo and Kennard. The sheriff's office found it important to provide security to the schools since the communities do not have their own police force.

"Normally, juvenile officer grants are written mainly to  investigate juvenile crimes, but this one we asked for is designed to provide additional security at the schools while hopefully building positive relationships between our youth and law enforcement," Shearer said.
