The Hemphill Hornets are headed in a different direction with Gary Vanyan at the helm of their athletic department. Vanyan will be the school’s new athletic director and head football coach.
The 54-year-old is in his 25th year of coaching and this won’t be his first stint coaching in Hemphill.
Hemphill is where Vanyan started his coaching career back in 1991. He spent five years with the Hornets.
A brief back story on Vanyan’s coaching experience includes seven years as the head coach at West Sabine. He went to state twice with Kirbyville, won a state championship with Ennis in 2013 as their defensive coordinator, and last year was with Jasper as DC.
Vanya will look to improve a program that went 3-7 last season.
