JASPER, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Jasper Police Department arrested a 20-year-old man on Jan. 28 after they went to a house looking for two Kountze High School students that had been missing since the day before, and allegedly found the man engaged in a sex act with one of the girls.
Octavious Grant, of Jasper, is still being held in the Jasper County jail on a felony sexual assault of a child charge. His bail amount has been set at $100,000.
According to Det. Garrett Foster with the Jasper Police Department, a JPD sergeant contacted him on Jan. 28 and told him he thought he had found two girls that had been missing from Kountze High School since Jan. 27.
Foster and another JPD detective went to the home near the intersection of Burch and Broad streets on the afternoon of Jan. 28. After the home owner answered the door and let them in, they entered a room and found Grant engaged in a sexual act with a girl that "looked way to young."
When questioned, the girl told police that she was 16. The other girl was questioned, and she told Foster that the alleged victim had met Grant on Instagram and exchanged numbers with him. In addition, the second girl said that Grant and the alleged victim had exchanged texts before the sexual assault occurred, Foster said.
Grant allegedly convinced the two girls to skip school after he picked them up at Kountze High School and took them to Jasper.
Foster said officers from the Kountze Police Department picked the two girls up and returned them to their legal guardians. The alleged victim was taken to get a SANE exam.
