NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Dreams come true on National Signing Day and it's something that became a reality for many East Texas athletes on Wednesday.
In front of a televised audience for ESPN U, Nacogdoches Dragon Brandon Jones signed with the University of Texas.
The No. 1 safety in the country won't be the only East Texan sporting burnt orange. Longhorns coach Jeff Traylor from Gilmer was in Jones' ear through the whole recruiting process.
"Traylor, being a high school coach last year, he kind of knew everything and knew a lot about some of the other coaches. He told me not what I wanted to hear, but the truth and obviously his opinion on things," said Jones. "I just kind of listened to him and being from East Texas, I just enjoyed what he had to say and he was very honest with me."
Jones had 43 offers and didn't know where he was going to sign until the night before.
The senior said he felt Texas was an up and coming program that would push him academically and help him become a better person off the field.
