ZAVALLA, TX (KTRE) -

A Zavalla couple was reunited with their recovery dog Thursday after he was missing for four months.

“I cannot believe it,” said dog owner Barbara Bridges

“This is amazing,” said the owners’ son Joe Bridges. “It just blows me away.”

When Lucky Bridges went missing after being boarded at the Jasper Animal Hospital in October, the whole family and Jasper community searched vigorously for him. However, after months of chasing him around and not being able to catch him, they thought their luck of finding Lucky had run out.

“Bad things happen to good people, but good things also happen,” Joe Bridges said.

Late Wednesday night, the Bridges got a call from their daughter who said a woman who lived by Lake Sam Rayburn thought she had successfully caught Lucky.

Author, however, didn't think they were that Lucky

"He said he didn’t think it's him,” Barbara Bridges explained. “He hadn't given up hope, but he resolved it wasn't meant to be."

The Bridges met the woman Thursday afternoon and when Author got out of the truck and into the woman's car, he got the surprise of his life.

“It was him,” Author Bridges exclaimed.

“Author and Lucky just went to loving on one another,” Barbara Bridges said.

Author had suffered a stroke five years ago, and Lucky helped him recover. Having him back means everything to The Bridges.

“It's an amazement to me,” Author Bridges said. “His love is so unconditional.”

“It’s just like one of our kids that's been gone has come back home,” Barbara Bridges exclaimed.

Aside from being a little dirty and little shaggy, Lucky is in perfect health and happy to be back home.

The Bridges can't thank the community of Jasper enough.

"It shows me beyond a shadow of a doubt that good things and good people are out there,” Joe Bridges said. “It reaffirms my faith, that God is on the throne and he cares about the little things.”
