EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -

The dry vegetation has combined with gusty north winds and low relative humidity values to enhance our wildfire threat today.  We have had some wind gusts top out near tropical storm force, which is around 40 mph.

As a result, we have a Fire Weather Warning in place for Houston, Polk, and Trinity counties until 7pm this evening.

We also have Lake Wind Advisories in place for Angelina, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Rusk, Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby counties until 6pm.

Even though there are not any burn bans in place, please avoid doing any outdoor burning today or this evening as the ingredients are there to promote rapid wildfire growth in East Texas.

If traveling on any east-west oriented roadways, please put both hands on the steering wheel and use extreme caution.

Look for the winds to gradually subside as we head into the evening hours.
