Crime Victims Provided Helpful Service

by Donna McCollum

Victims of crime will soon have the ability to learn about the suspect in their case by making a phone call. Nacogdoches county law enforcement is learning about Texas VINE, which is short for Victim Information and Notification Everyday.

The computerized link with the Attorney General's office provides victims important information. VINE Trainer Dianne Clements explained, "You will receive any notice and change of jail status of any offender who bonds out jail for instance within 15 minutes of that offender bonding out of jail. So it is very important part of the puzzle for victim's safety and their sense of wellbeing."

While designed for victims, anyone can access Texas VINE. Brochures on how to access the system can be obtained from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Department. The toll free number for vine is 1-877-TX4-VINE.
