LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Lufkin Police officers arrested a 24-year-old man after he allegedly ran from them in a go-cart, jumped out and hid behind a tree, and then ran away on foot early Thursday afternoon.
Lester Charles Jones, of Lufkin, was booked into the Angelina County Jail on three misdemeanor charges - evading arrest, possession of marijuana, and loud/disturbing unnecessary noise. He was released from the jail later Thursday after he posted a collectively bail amount of $4,000.
According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the go-cart chase occurred between 5:44 and 5:56 p.m. Thursday. After Lufkin PD officers made contact with Jones about him and another man driving a go-cart down Weaver Street and running stop signs, Jones apparently fled in the go-cart, the report stated.
When the officers pulled up into a driveway behind the go-cart, Jones and the other man allegedly tried to hide from them behind a nearby tree. Upon realizing that they had been spotted, they fled on foot, the report stated.
Jones was caught and arrested after he ran about one-third of a mile. A bag containing .32 ounces of marijuana was found in Jones' pocket, according to the report.
The report stated that the other man got away from the LPD officers.
