LUFKIN , TX (Press Release)- Locked in a three-way tie for second place, a mere game back of a two-way tie for first.
That's the situation in which the Angelina College Roadrunners find themselves heading into Wednesday night's showdown with the San Jacinto Ravens.
AC, coming off a tough road loss at Jacksonville College this past Saturday, nevertheless has lost little ground in the Region XIV South Zone race. At 9-7 in conference play, the Roadrunners are even with Jacksonville and Lee College, while the Ravens and Lamar State College-Port Arthur cling to the top spot at 10-5. With just three games remaining – including Wednesday's battle at Shands Gymnasium – the 'Runners will have time to make a push for the top spot. Following AC's game with San Jac, the remainder of the schedule includes Saturday's road trip to Blinn College (8-8) before closing out the season on Feb. 27 against Lamar-Port Arthur's Seahawks.
In the first meeting between AC and San Jac on Jan. 23, the Ravens broke open a close game with a late surge to win 88-75 in Pasadena. The Ravens, however, are just 3-6 in road games, while the Roadrunners are 9-3 at home.
