LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The rehabilitation Center at Lufkin's CHI St.Luke's Memorial Hospital got a small but appreciated donation today from Lufkin's First Baptist Church.
The church was able to donate a truck load of gently used medical equipment to the center. The equipment ranged from wheel chairs, crutches to tennis balls. The equipment was sorted out Wednesday night by the kindergarten through 6th grade children classes before a church employee took the load over Thursday morning.
"Jesus taught us that we should always have a servants heart and that if there is a need in our community and we can help that need," teacher Deidra Oates said. "It is our job as Christians to help that need. It is a tangible activity we can use with our kindergarten through 6th graders."
The church decided to make the donation while members were sorting through closet space to make room for other needed items that are being moved around in the upcoming building campaign.
