NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Some of East Texas' best Special Olympic athletes hit the basketball court Saturday to go head-to-head.
This year's tournament was held at Stephen F. Austin.
More than 235 Special Olympics athletes and 21 unified partners competed in 3-on-3 and 5-on-5 games.
Organizers said many athletes weren't shy when it came to showing off their individual skills.
"At the end of the day, they're all athletes, and they're here to win," Anthony Key, East Texas area director for Special Olympics of Texas said. "So it hasn't been too chippy, but you can see every now and then the competitive spirit comes out of some of them."
The next competition will be the spring games in April, when athletes will compete in cycling and track competitions.
