LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Leash-free and on the prowl, there's no stopping the four-legged guy; everywhere he turns,, there is a new adventure.
"Smiley Jack was a stray that came into our shelter," said Aaron Ramsey, the director of the Kurth Memorial Animal Shelter.
That was about three weeks ago. At the time Smiley Jack was unnamed, but the folks at Kurth Memorial quickly picked up on one of his famous features.
"He'll smile at you when you first approach him," Ramsey said.
Smiley Jack is a slightly shy 10-year-old cur mix with the battle scars to show for it.
"He's got some scars on his face and on his hind legs. Not really sure what his background is, but he's a very loving dog and very sweet," Ramsey said.
And along with lots of love, Smiley Jack's new family will also need to give him lots of nutritious food.
"When they come in, you know, they get a good diet here, but a lot of times just the stress level of the dogs that can also affect their weight gain or weight loss," Ramsey said.
And although Smiley is a seasoned dog, he's not ready for the retirement home just yet. An active family, who's still ready for lots of fun will be Smiley's best fit.
