Nacogdoches woman still hospitalized after driving into creek

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, TX (KTRE) - DPS has released the name of a Nacogdoches woman who remains hospitalized after driving into a creek Monday morning.

According to DPS, Betty Simpson, 74, was driving north on US 59, north of Nacogdoches, in a 2006 Ford car when she left the road to the right and struck a road sign. She then cross over both north and southbound lanes and struck a guardrail and flipped into a creek.

Central Heights/Appleby Volunteer Fire Chief James Russell said five passersby were able to upright the car to keep her from staying under water.

Her condition was not available.
