NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) -

Nacogdoches Police officers arrested a 27-year-old man on a felony assault of a public servant charge after he ran from them on foot and then assaulted the NPD officer who was trying to arrest him.

Mark Anthony Ratcliff, of Nacogdoches, is still being held in the Nacogdoches County Jail on a third-degree assault of a public servant charge, a Class A misdemeanor evading arrest charge, and a Class B misdemeanor possession of marijuana charge. No bail amounts have been set at this time.

According to the Nacogdoches Police Department’s daily activity report, the incident occurred at about 9:18 p.m. Monday in the 220 block of Pearl Street.

When NPD officers tried to talk to Ratcliff about a pedestrian violation, he ran from them and led them on a short foot pursuit. Ratcliff allegedly assaulted an officer while he was being taken into custody.

After Ratcliff was arrested, he was found to be in possession of marijuana, the report stated.
