JASPER, TX (KTRE) -

Jasper Police officers arrested a 25-year-old man Wednesday after a home owner allegedly caught him in the act of breaking into his house on Willow Drive.

Joseph Lamar Beatty was arrested and charged with felony burglary of a habitation and misdemeanor evading arrest.

According to a press release, JPD officers were dispatched out to check on a report of a burglary in progress at a home in the 100 block of Willow Drive. The homeowner told the officers that he was awakened by the sound of glass breaking, and when he rushed to check it out, he found a man dressed in dark clothing at his window.

The man allegedly demanded that the home owner give him everything he had.

Later, the Jasper PD officers detained and identified a suspect matching the description given by the home owner. A few hours later, JPD detectives got a warrant for Beatty.

At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, a Jasper PD sergeant tried to take Beatty into custody, but he tried to flee on foot. He was arrested a short time later.
