Shelbyville Dragon Octavian Burrell signed Thursday morning to play football for Bethel University.
The running back barreled through everyone this year rushing for 2,337 yards and 37 touchdowns. Burrell also finished his senior campaign on first-team all-state and was named the MVP of the district.
Burrell is a four-year letterwinner, was named Newcomer of Year his freshmen season, is a three-time all-district selection and has been named a Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week.
With a lengthy resume, Burrell believes moving up a level will be a smooth change.
“I expect it to be a great transition. Attitude and effort, that's all it takes in any level of the sports you're in. I'm going to take it a step at a time just like high school. I’m going to go and do my best. That's all I can do,” said Burrell.
Burrell said knowing what the future holds for him is a big relief and he can’t wait to continue performing on the field for his family.
“It's great I don't have to worry about it anymore and my family can get the money and start making the trips. It's great,” said Burrell. “I'm just thankful that God gave me the opportunity to play at the next level.”
Burrell said he plans on studying Kinesiology in College.
