SHELBY COUNTY, TX (KTRE) -

Shelby County officials have issued a mandatory evacuation order for people who live near the Sabine River, the Toledo Bend Reservoir, or low-lying areas near bodies of water.

"As the Shelby County emergency management director, I am issuing a county-wide declaration of disaster and a mandatory evacuation for all residents that live on the Sabine River and Toledo Bend Lake within Shelby County," said County Judge Allison Harbison. "If you live close to any low-lying areas near any body of water, you should evacuate."

Harbison said the Sabine River is expected to crest on Sunday.

"Please do not wait until then to call for help to evacuate," Harbison said. "You may call your volunteer fire department, the sheriff's office, or 911 for help with evacuation. Many agencies are working to help everyone reach safety and stay safe."

Harbison added that she feels the worst is yet to come, and she urged Shelby County residents to "be smart and safe."
