LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The recent heavy rains and concern of the fast spreading Zika virus have crews with the city of Lukin Parks and recreation Department busy, getting ready for the annual mosquito spraying season.
"We usually spray around the rainy times," Maintenance Supervisor Bobby Cox said. "We have enough to start the season but I am having to order some more of the spray."
Cox said the city should start the spraying process later this week.
"We should be starting by Thursday," Cox said.
Cox said the city will first spray the streets that are called in by residents and will then go to work on the heavily traveled areas including parks and downtown.
"We urge people to don't water out at their house," Cox said. "Avoid early morning and evening hours. We are not allowed to get on anybody's property so it will be just the perimeter on the streets were we will be spraying."
Anyone wishing to request a spray should call the Parks Department at (936) 633-0250.
