EAST TEXAS (KTRE) -

Newton County officials have issued a mandatory evacuation for the Deweyville area after intense flooding.

According to Emergency Coordinator Billy Ted Smith, anywhere from 500 to 700 homes were flooded.

Several nearby counties have come together, along with state officials and the military, to set up a Multi-Agency Coordination Center at the Jasper County Annex to help the evacuation and relief efforts in Deweyville.

"We've got a field command in Deweyville, and we've got a lot of resources here at The Annex that we're working on with the State of Texas. As well as other agencies to assist Newton County.

The Toledo Bend area in Newton County is set to crest anywhere between late Monday to Tuesday.

The combined agencies are ready to perform water evacuations and there are several shelters set up in Jasper and Newton counties
