Report: Lufkin man threw ex-wife out of her wheelchair, injured her

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Officers with the Lufkin Police Department arrested a 50-year-old man Thursday night in connection to allegations that he got angry and threw his ex-wife out of her wheelchair in the Kmart parking lot, injuring her.

James Michael Cook is still being held in the Angelina County jail on a third-degree felony injury to a disabled person causing bodily injury charge. His bail amount has been set at $25,000.

According to the Lufkin Police Department's daily activity report, the incident happened at the Kmart store located at 3000 S. John Redditt Drive at about 7:30 p.m. Thursday.  The victim told Lufkin PD officers that Cook threw her out of her wheelchair after he got angry at her and accused her of stealing his tablet, the report stated.

Cook's ex-wife also told the officer that Cook had tried to spin her out of her wheelchair before he threw her out of it, the report stated. A med unit was called out to the scene to check out injuries to the woman's wrists, knee, and back.

Before the incident, they had gone out to eat and do a little shopping with their son when Cook became angry at his ex-wife, the report stated.

Cook was arrested after he walked away from the scene on North Timberland Drive.
