Troopers Say Paying Attention Behind The Wheel Can Save Lives

by Ramonica R. Jones

People living in the 6000 block of Highway 103 East call it a dangerous stretch of road.  State troopers say it's always important to be careful, wherever you're driving.

Trooper Randy Minshew said, "Every highway in the state of Texas is dangerous if you don't pay attention to what you're doing.  Be aware of your surroundings, follow the traffic laws."

Residents around Wednesday's accident scene say there's so much heavy traffic on the highway, they do everything they can to avoid it.

Skid marks and paint are all that's left from Wednesday's deadly crash. Neighbors that have lived there for years say it was only a matter of time before it happened.

"This road is very bad, it's been like this for a long, long time," Louise Jones said.  "We've been here 48 years and it's real bad.  It's just bumper to bumper."

Louise and Murrell want to see some changes on the highway; like a sign discouraging u-turns or maybe a lower speed limit.  The Joneses say speed is often to blame for the wrecks they see.
